We've put together this packing list based on years of running guided cycling tours in Transylvania and Hungary. Pack smart, our support vehicle handles your luggage, so you only carry essentials while riding.
Cycling Gear
- Cycling jerseys (3, breathable)
- Padded cycling shorts (3 pairs)
- Arm/leg warmers or lightweight layers
- Wind/rain jacket (packable)
- Cycling socks
- Cycling shoes (let us know your pedal preference when booking)
- Cycling gloves (padded, fingerless)
- Sunglasses (UV protection, ideally photochromic)
- Buff/neck gaiter
- Extra water bottles (we provide 1 per person)
- Compact backpack or frame bag (for essentials while riding: water, camera, rain jacket)
Seasonal considerations
- Thermal base layer (essential for April and October — mornings and mountain descents can be cold)
- Waterproof overshoes (for spring and autumn rain)
- Full-finger gloves (for cold or wet days)
Clothing and Personal Items
- Casual clothes for evenings
- Comfortable shoes for walking around (hiking shoes work well)
- Lightweight jacket or fleece for cooler evenings
- Hat or cap (sun protection)
- Undergarments & socks
Toiletries and Health
- Basic toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant)
- Extra towel (accommodation provides towels, but handy as backup)
- Sunscreen (high SPF, sweat-resistant)
- Chamois cream (to prevent saddle sores)
- Insect repellent
- Small personal first-aid kit (plasters, blister pads, painkillers)
- Any prescription medication
Electronics and Travel Essentials
- Phone + charger
- Plug adapter (Romania uses EU type C/F)
- Powerbank (optional)
- Camera or GoPro (optional)
- ID/passport
- Travel insurance (make sure it covers cycling and eMTB)
- Cash in small bills (RON for Romania, HUF for Hungary — some villages have no card payment)
What NOT to Bring
- Too many clothes — 3 cycling kits are enough; we can wash and quick-dry them between days
- Big backpacks — the support vehicle handles your luggage; just carry a small bag while riding
- Bulky shoes — cycling shoes plus one pair of comfortable evening shoes is all you need
- Too much cash — almost everything is covered in the tour price; just bring some for souvenirs and local treats
- Large toiletry bottles — bring travel-size or refillable ones; guesthouses often provide the basics
